Sawa Nakagawa is the Chief Executive Officer of E 2 Investments (Pty) Ltd, the empowerment partner to Allan Gray Limited, Africa’s largest privately owned investment management company. E 2 ’s mission is to create jobs and attack poverty in South Africa through responsible and high impact entrepreneurship. E 2invests in businesses created by Allan Gray Fellows and supports social entrepreneurs. Originally from Japan, Sawa has 15 years of experience in the global finance industry focused on corporate finance and investments across Asia, Europe, Africa, U.S. and Latin America. She has previously worked as Principal at Absa Corporate & Investment Bank, where she was responsible for corporate M&A transactions and organic expansions for Barclays Africa Group. Prior to that she worked at the International Finance Corporation in Washington D.C. and UBS Investment Bank in Tokyo and London. She is passionate about entrepreneurship and investing. Currently she serves as trustee on the board of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation. From 2013 to 2016 Sawa served as Independent Member of the Board Investment Committee of the National Empowerment Fund. Sawa holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a Masters in International Affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. She is a CFA Charterholder.
